The Importance of Teaching the Little Ones

Okay, so I have a confession. The past few weeks I have been feeling a little left out of all of the "grown-up" lessons and activities that go on at church. I found myself thinking: 'Why am I teaching the little 5 year olds, when I should be in Sunday School and Relief Society building up my spiritual strength and preparing to be the best I can become?' I feel terrible even admitting this...I absolutely love the class that I get to teach at church. I enjoy teaching them the basics and seeing their faces light up when a simple gospel principle is understood. Keep reading, I have a point, I promise.

As today was fast Sunday I reminded my husband not to eat anything. He then told me to be sure and start my fast with a prayer (Chris has never reminded me of this, so I thought it really important to do so since HE reminded me). I couldn't think of anything particulary on my mind, so I decided to fast for what Heavenly Father needed me to hear today.

So, as we were sitting in testimony meeting, two primary children got up to bear their testimonies. They were about the simple principles of the gospel-asking for help finding a stuffed animal, or for help trying to write weekly letters to a loved one. Then a few of the mothers in our ward got up to share how important the gospel principles are for helping their children's testimonies grow.

It was so clear to me that what I am doing is not only reinforcing just how important the simple things are in my life, but helping my primary kids begin to grow their little testimonies. So, I think Heavenly Father knew the concerns of my heart and helped to validate the importance of what I am doing now. I am greatful that I can work on and teach the basics of the gospel...I know just how important they truly are. I can't imagine trying to conquer the large obstacles in life without doing the simple things (which I still struggle to do everyday).

What a sweet thing to post about, I don't think you are alone in sometimes feeling like you are missing out on Relief Society I felt like that myself on occasion when I was in primary. But on the opposite end when Lance comes out of nursery teaching me what he has learned I am just in awe of the teachers, it's no easy task teaching those little ones the basic principles. I am sure your efforts are being rewarded.
