Traditions...Help, Please!

So, I've been really thinking about how traditions in my family started.  Did my mom and dad decide one day to start or had their parents been doing the traditions for years?  Kind of interesting to think about...

Anywho, I was wondering what traditions y'all  have for this wonderful time of year...Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Years...I'm looking for some ideas!  Hopefully soon Chris and I will have a family of our own.  You guys have the cutest little families and such fun ideas.

I know I haven't written here in a while, so I'm hoping some of you still even read this!  Please leave me some help/advice...thank you and I hope y'all are enjoying the Thanksgiving Spirit!

I love traditions and I think that you can carry on traditions and start your own.

Some that I have started with my family are:

Setting up Thanksgiving on Black Friday instead of shopping

Watching Christmas Movies on Christmas Eve

Last year we made a list of things we are thankful for and hung it on the refridgerator, we're doing that again this year, its a nice daily reminder.

Family pictures is a tradition we have done.

I think no matter what you choose there is no wrong or right. My Family has always done Jammies on Christmas Eve and that is something I will carry on with my kids.

We've started a few new traditions now that Gracie is older, but I wish we would have been enjoying them even before we had children:

-I make a paper turkey with paper feathers (one for each day leading up to Thanksgiving) and write one thing we are thankful for on the back of each feather. Each blessing has a corresponding activity written on the back as well (i.e. if the blessing is books the activity might be something like taking a trip to the library or donating books to people who don't have them).

-For our countdown to Christmas I individually wrap 24 books and we open and read one each night before Christmas.

Enjoy your holidays!

I love traditions, they bond a family I think. I bet you guys have more than you realize....I would love to hear yours too!

Everything we do is pretty simple and really things we have done even before we had kids. One of my favorites in fact we just did tonight. Go to Hallmark and each of us pick out an ornament for the tree. Only now Eric and don't get one and we just get the kids one because they get a little pricey! But I love pulling them out each year seeing what each child picked out and what they were loving at that time in their lives.

One more that I love is I always wrap up the Christmas books and place them under my boys tree in their room. Starting December 1st we unwrap one a night and read it together as a family under the glow of Christmas lights. We did that before kids too, though I will admit I think Eric did it just to please me but my kids adore it as much as I do and I secretly think Eric as grown to cherish it over the years too!

Good luck friend!
