Field Trip

So Thurday I left for a Science Teacher Conference (CAST) in Fort Worth, Texas. I drove up with two other science teachers Kindra and Donna. Kindra is my age and Donna...well, lets just say she has kids our age. Donna is probably one of the coolest woman ever and has an awesome sense of humor. I don't think she is as old as she says she is...so, that's why I won't disclose. Anywho, we had a good time. I found some good games and toys to help teach my lessons and make them more hands-on.

One of my classes was a field trip to Dallas to what is called Fair Parks. At Fair Parks there are lots of museums, the Cottonbowl, and State Fair Park. I visited the Womens Museum while I was there. There is a wall of quotes that I absolutely loved. One by Helen Keller 'Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.' Did you know that Monopoly was invented by a woman? So was Kevlar. Each of these women were inspired to improve the world we live in--such creativity and innovative thinking. Another quote I loved, 'The feature belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.' -Eleanore Roosevelt.

One thing that I couldn't help to remember while I as walking through this museum was a talk that Gordon B. Hinckley gave. It was about how as women we don't need to be rough and tough. We need to be compassionate and loving. It is great that women throughout history have been so assertive, but its those who balance that drive with service and love who truly inspire. I am greatful for a loving Heavenly Mother and I can't help but think of all the truly divine qualities she must posses. I love my own mother and have learned so much from her...such a strong person; I admire her courage. Keep up the great work all of you awesome mothers, mothers to be, and those who deep down strive to be better women.

On a side note, I saw quite a few turtles at the different museums. At the Museum of Nature there was a fossil skeleton of a HUGE turtle (Mosasaur) . I am talking the size of an SUV...they really lived on this Earth forever ago. Can you imagine a freakin' huge turtle roaming around. I also got to see a live, large turtle (like as big as my Coffee table) at the Dallas Aquarium. Its amazing to think of all the creatures that have lived on this Earth and why they're no longer here. There was a Bowfish at the aquarium. Those of you who don't know why this is important (I didn't), but the Bowfish is one of the fish that lived at least 10,000 years ago that is still here today. It can live in mud! I know I am uch a nerd, but I thought that was so neat. Be sure that if you have kids and are ever in the Dallas Area, be sure to visit all of the musuems...so neat.

Fun trip, especially for something work related, I am so glad you are enjoying your job. Great post, it made me happy to be a woman, especially today when the world could use a lot more compassion and nurturing...
